Volcanic Non Profit Calendar 2019

Nonprofit calendar 2019

As every year since 2012, the Canary Institute of Volcanology (INVOLCAN) has created a new non-profit calendar on volcanism for 2019. It is intended to provide residents and visitors of the Canary Islands with information and knowledge on the phenomenon of volcanism through a useful tool such as a calendar, and this time it is dedicated to the lava tubes: komplex struktures which some lava flows develop after their stop, solidification and subsequent draining of their core.

Now seven years on, INVOLCAN’s nonprofit calendar is once again seeing the light of day thanks to the support of the Dirección General de Seguridad y Emergencias (DGSE) of the Canary Islands Government. This time we particularly want to thank our colleague and friend Alfredo Lainez Concepción from the Speleology Association Tenerife Benisahare for his great contribution to the publication of the INVOLCAN calendar 2019.

Since 2012, the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (INVOLCAN) has been publishing a calendar with the aim of making known various aspects related to the phenomenon of volcanism, to contribute to a better social awareness in terms of risk management and the many benefits of living in a volcanically active region. The subject of the 2012 calendar was the submarine eruption at El Hierro in 2011 / 2012, the publication of which was made possible thanks to the help of the helicopter squadron for the Canaries of the Guardia Civil, the Island Council of El Hierro and Banca Civica. Since 2013, the publication of the INVOLCAN calendars has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Dirección General de Seguridad y Emergencias del Gobierno de Canarias. In 2013, the historical volcanism of the Canary Islands was addressed, while the 2014 calendar was about understanding various dangers associated with volcanism. In 2015, a tribute to Teide, which was considered one of the volcanoes of the decade, while the 2016 edition focused on the unique volcanic landscapes of each and every one of the Canary Islands. The 2017 edition was related to Macaronesian volcanism and the 2018 edition was dedicated to commemorating the 30th anniversary of the international conference «Cities on Volcanoes».
